Hello travelers !
Dreaming of Japan ? You’re not alone. It is a land of contrasts that captures the imagination, a vibrant archipelago where Tokyo’s electric futurism embraces the sacred silence of millennial temples. But I know what’s on your mind… How can you make this adventure a success without getting lost in the crowds ? Is it still possible to admire Mount Fuji while discovering a more secret, intimate side of Japan ?
The answer is a resounding YES.
As your Travel Planner, I’ve designed this 15-day itinerary like a musical score : a perfect balance between must-see icons and those hidden gems you won’t find in any paper guidebook. Fasten your seatbelt (or rather, get your JR Pass ready), I’m taking you to experience the Japan you’ve always dreamed of.
Week 1: Between Urban Vertigo and Whispers of the Past
Tokyo, the World-City (Days 1 to 4)
We’re diving headfirst into the pure energy of the capital ! Of course, I’ll take you to experience the thrill of the mythical Shibuya Crossing, it’s a must to feel the pulse of Tokyo. But my real secret for you is discovering Yanaka Ginza, my favorite neighborhood in Old Tokyo.
What awaits you : No skyscrapers here. This is the Japan of the 1950s, with its passionate artisans and dozing cats. Here, you can savor a slower pace right in the heart of the megalopolis.
Transport : Don’t panic about getting around; the Japanese subway is a marvel of precision that makes life easy. To reach this haven of peace from the bustle of Shibuya, it only takes 30 minutes via the famous Yamanote circular line. It’s completely seamless thanks to prepaid transport cards (Suica/Pasmo).
Kanazawa, the "Little Kyoto" of the Alps (Days 5 to 7)
Get ready for love at first sight ! An essential stop for lovers of history and elegance, Kanazawa opens the doors to its perfectly preserved samurai and geisha districts. This is where the soul of feudal Japan beats the strongest.
The magical moment : A stroll through the Kenroku-en Garden at dawn, one of the three most beautiful in the country. You’ll feel a profound harmony, where every stone seems to have been placed by the hand of an artist.
Transport : Tokyo ➔ Kanazawa takes 2h30 via the Hokuriku Shinkansen. It’s a direct, ultra-comfortable, and incredibly simple journey.
Week 2: In the Heart of the Japanese Soul, Between Hidden Temples and Wild Nature
Kyoto and the Secret of Ohara (Days 8 to 11)
The Golden Pavilion is sublime, it’s true, but it often falls victim to its own success. My real planner’s tip for catching your breath ? Escape for a day to Ohara, a small rural village nestled in the mountains north of the city. This is where rural Japan reveals its most beautiful secrets.
The gem : Sanzen-in Temple. Imagine velvety green moss gardens and small stone statues smiling among the ferns. This is where you can truly touch absolute serenity.
Transport : Kanazawa ➔ Kyoto takes 2h15 by Express train. To reach Ohara from central Kyoto, allow 1 hour by local bus. It’s an easy getaway that lets you watch the rural landscapes roll by.
The Iya Valley: Wild Japan (Days 12 to 14)
We end on a high note on Shikoku Island ! Prepare for a visual and emotional shock: this is the Japan of ancestral vine bridges and dizzying gorges. Here, nature has kept all its rights, which is exactly what makes this place so powerful and unforgettable.
The experience : Spend a night in a traditional house. Bathe in an Onsen (hot spring) with nothing but misty mountains in view. You’ll feel alone in the world, reconnected to the essentials.
Transport : Kyoto ➔ Iya Valley takes about 3h30 (Shinkansen to Okayama, then a Limited Express train through the mountains). This is the most “adventurous” part, but the views from the train are spectacular and the route is very well marked.
📱 3 Digital Tools to Navigate Like a Pro
Even with the best itinerary, Japanese stations can feel like labyrinths. Here are your three best allies:
Google Maps : Your Swiss Army knife. The app even tells you the train car number to board so you’re right in front of your transfer or exit.
Japan Travel by NAVITIME : The ultimate tool for filtering routes included in your JR Pass and knowing the exact departure platform.
Suica / Pasmo (Wallet) : No more waiting at ticket machines! Add a Suica card directly to your iPhone or Android Wallet. Recharge it in seconds and tap through the gates without even unlocking your screen.
5 Expert Tips for a Flawless Stay
The journey begins with your feet : You’ll walk a lot in Japan (sometimes 20 km a day!). It’s in those tucked-away alleys that you’ll find the most beautiful hidden shrines.
Chopstick Etiquette : Never stick your chopsticks vertically into your bowl of rice. This gesture is reserved for funeral rituals. Similarly, never pass food from chopstick to chopstick.
The Language of the Heart : A simple “Itadakimasu” (I gratefully receive) before eating will earn you many smiles. Respect is the key to a successful immersion.
The Secret of Smart Travelers : This is my favorite tip ! Don’t struggle with your suitcases in the stations anymore. Takkyubin is an ultra-reliable luggage delivery service. For about €15-20, you drop your suitcase at your hotel reception in the morning, and it magically waits for you in your room at the next stop. It’s the secret to traveling light and enjoying every layover!
The Trash Can Hunt : There are almost no public trash cans in Japanese streets! Always keep a small plastic bag in your backpack to carry your waste back to your hotel or to the nearest “Convenience Store” (Konbini).
Your "Zero Stress" Pre-Flight Checklist
Pocket WiFi or eSIM : Essential to have internet everywhere.
Plug Adapter (Type A) : Flat pins are required for your devices.
“Visit Japan Web” App : To complete customs formalities online and breeze through the airport.
Cash (a little): For small temples and traditional restaurants that don’t take cards.
Why Trust Me to Create Your Japanese Odyssey?
I know how you feel : Japan is a dream, but it can also be intimidating. Between the language barrier, the puzzle of train maps, and the fear of making a social faux pas, it’s easy to spend more time with your nose in a guidebook than looking at the scenery.
That’s where I come in, so you can just enjoy. My role as a Travel Planner is to turn your doubts into a certainty : the certainty of experiencing a fluid and memorable journey. I don’t just give you a list of addresses; I weave a unique travel diary for you, a true road companion. Every trip is optimised to save you from fatigue, every neighborhood is chosen for its soul, and every step is designed to make YOU vibrate.
I give you the keys to this wonderful country so you can “get lost” in complete safety, with a light mind and an open heart.
So, shall we prepare the trip of a lifetime together ? Tell me your desires and your doubts, and let’s create the itinerary that looks like no one but you.
